Know The Truth About Credit Reporting

Dispute A Charge on A Credit Report

These days, mistakes on credit reports are becoming common to most consumers. It is therefore important to know how you can dispute your credit report.

If you notice you have any error or mistakes on your credit report, below are the things you need to do.

  1. Point out any credit report errors

You should constantly review your credit report to identify any mistakes that could have been made. You can apply for a credit report from the three credit reference agencies- the Experian, Equifax and TransUnion. Some of the common errors that you might find include outdated information about late payment which you made more than seven years ago. Only information on for the last six years should be included

Incorrect personal information

2. The next thing is to verify your credit report errors

After identifying your errors, you should contact the creditor to confirm the errors. At this point, it is possible to correct the errors. If you find difficulties in solving the issues you can contact the credit reporting company for any clarifications. You can do that through writing to inform them on any abnormalities that you want to be corrected.

3. Allow time for investigation

You should give time to the investigating agency to complete their job to ensure everything you want to be corrected is actually true. After the investigation is complete, the investigating agency will respond through writing, and a free copy of the report is handed to you if the claims have been corrected.

What is done to those credit institutions having your wrong information?

What you have to do after receiving the report is to notify everyone who has your information to make the necessary corrections.

If the investigating does not solve your case on time, you need to ask the credit reporting company to write your issue in a brief statement to describe your dispute.
