Over all though, the brown trout action on the Oak is tough. Look for better rivermouth and lower river action each day on cool or wet weather. Since its still busy with plenty of Kings around, anglers need to carefully spot the places where the browns are shadowing the Kings. You can see the Canal drainage influence in the stained color but Canal release flows sure look more tempered in the smaller tribs then say the Oak. See more info on their. A little rise in flows and some stain to the water makes for a willing biter with this nearly 20 pound hen steelhead. Most noticeable drop will be the Oak since the Canal flows are also throttling back. A few pools or slots may hide a fish that didnt take the drop back trip. Other area smaller tribs are at med and slightly stained. Not a whole lot of reports coming back in for the Oak but now with flows that are a little more easily drifted guys should be into a few browns or steelhead. Flows should be back on the retreat already today with some stain hanging on. The creek at Olcott (18 Mile) is muddy but there are loads of fish around according to Karen Evarts at The Boat Doctors in Olcott. Cooling weather and water will also help bring on better brown trout and steelhead action and the area is not likely to suffer thru any more real warm weather now that we are well into October.
